Just a short, scenic drive from Aurora House, lies one of the Northern Rivers’ most breathtaking natural treasures — Killen Falls in the Byron Bay Hinterland. A Waterfall Worth the Wander

Hidden within thick subtropical forest and surrounded by native birdlife, Killen Falls in the Byron Bay Hinterland cascades over a natural rock amphitheatre into a tranquil swimming hole below. The falls are part of Emigrant Creek, and their sheltered base features a dramatic cave where visitors can even step behind the curtain of water — a moment of pure magic that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into another world.

From the car park, it’s an easy 10–15-minute walk (approximately 500 metres each way) through shaded bushland. Along the way, you’ll pass a lookout platform that offers sweeping views of the falls — perfect for photos if you prefer not to make the full descent. The final section of the track can be a little rocky and uneven, so we recommend wearing enclosed shoes with good grip, especially after rain when the path can be slippery.

A Dream Elopement Location

Recently, one of our own Aurora House celebrants, Heidi Robertson, conducted an intimate elopement right here at Killen Falls.
>With the soft mist of the waterfall as their backdrop and the sound of birdsong echoing through the gorge, it was a truly unforgettable ceremony — simple, natural, and profoundly romantic.

For couples seeking something a little out of the ordinary, Killen Falls makes a stunning elopement or micro-wedding location. The natural beauty requires little in the way of decoration; the rainforest, rushing water, and shifting light create an atmosphere of quiet wonder all on their own.
